Food truck fans and aficionados will be excited to learn that Gunstock Mountain Resort’s Summer Send-Off Food Truck Festival is returning this summer on Sunday, August 25. This celebration of street food and family fun is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 per person in advance at gunstock.com or $8 per person when purchased the day of the event. Children 10 and younger will be admitted for free. Food, beverages and activities are priced separately.
More than a dozen food trucks offering a wide variety of culinary options will serve as the centerpiece for the foodie festivities. Attendees can quench their thirst with a selection of popular beverages from the Festival Beer Garden. Live music will fill the mountain air and accompany a number of family activities to include Cow Patty Bingo, a dunk tank, ax throwing, face painting and more. Another highlight of the festival will be a pre-season gear and clothing sale at Gunstock Ski & Sport.
Gunstock’s Adventure Park will be operating during the Food Truck Festival. On the softer side of adventure, a scenic chairlift ride to the top of the mountain on the Panorama chairlift is a great way to see Lake Winnipesaukee from a different perspective. Each chair accommodates one to four passengers. Guests can explore the summit on their own and return to the base area at their convenience.
Also ranking among the resort’s tamer adventures, Gunstock’s Mountain Coaster is a roller-coaster-like experience on an open toboggan that can accommodate a single passenger or two riders. Anticipation builds as the cart climbs uphill and eventually yields to the force of gravity for a fun ride through the trees and along curves and bank turns that follow the mountain’s natural contour. Unlike a traditional roller coaster, independent speed is controlled by operating a brake lever throughout the descent.
For greater thrills, Gunstock’s popular Zip Tour fits the bill. Visitors soar above the treetops from peak to peak, and peak to base, traveling over a combined 1.6 miles on one of the longest zipline tours in the continental United States. This 90-minute excursion is a journey through nature with an adrenaline rush. Participants can control their speed using a brake or let it rip and approach speeds of 60-plus mph.
Constructed among the trees, Gunstock’s Aerial Treetop Adventure is New England’s largest aerial obstacle course. A total of 81 varied challenges are securely suspended within the trees in eight high ropes courses, including the Explorer Course just for kids. Features include log ladders, swinging bridges, seesaws, and, of course, ziplines. Participants are fitted with safety harnesses and provided with belay-system training at the start of their treetop quest.
Camping season at Gunstock is still underway, so festival-goers can make a long weekend of the Food Truck Festival. Gunstock Mountain Resort’s campground places guests in the heart of New Hampshire’s Lakes Region, close to the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee and nestled at the base of the Belknap Mountains. Wooded and field sites with fire rings and picnic tables serve as home base for guests who enjoy overnight accommodations in a natural setting with easy access to amenities: a camp store, swimming pool, dog park, bath houses, hiking and biking trails, a fishing pond, and Gunstock’s Adventure Park. Gunstock campers receive a discount on Adventure Park activities during their stay.
