Squam Lakes Association: Weed Watchers Training, Holderness NH

June 22 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
The Squam Lakes Association will be holding a volunteer training session for the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services’ Weed Watchers program on Saturday, June 22nd from 11 AM–1 PM. The Weed Watchers program, started by NHDES, enables anyone to help protect our lakes against the spread of invasive species by becoming an extra pair of eyes on the lake to spot and report potential invasions. After this training session, volunteers will be able to look for invasive species like variable milfoil on their own, and know how to report sightings on Squam as an official Weed Watcher! The SLA will provide kayaks for volunteer use, as well as the necessary equipment for surveying. Participants are also welcome to bring their own kayaks or canoes, as well as any questions about aquatic invasives or about the Weed Watchers program.
For more information, or to sign up for this program, please visit the SLA events calendar at squamlakes.org/calendar, or call the SLA at 603-968-7336. The SLA offers guided hikes and educational programs throughout the year. All programs are free and open to the public. This program and others are presented by the SLA’s Lakes Region Conservation Corps members, who perform important conservation work in support of the Association’s mission.
The Squam Lakes Association is dedicated to conserving for public benefit the natural beauty, peaceful character and resources of the watershed. In collaboration with local and state partners the SLA promotes the protection, careful use and shared enjoyment of the lakes, mountains, forests, open spaces and wildlife of the Squam Lakes Region.
