THE APPLE TREE KICKS OFF THE BARNSTORMERS THEATRE 77TH SUMMER SEASON ON A HIGH NOTE!

Join The Barnstormers Theatre as they kick off their 77th summer season with the beloved musical, The Apple Tree, by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, directed by Clayton Phillips, music direction by Bret Silverman and musical staging by Lawrence Street (Urinetown and Inspecting Carol). Running June 28th through July 7th, The Apple Tree is based on three short stories; The Diary of Adam and Eve by Mark Twain, The Lady or the Tiger? by Frank R. Stockton and Passionella by Jules Feiffer. From the songwriting team who brought us the treasured musicals Fiddler On The Roof an d She Loves Me! comes a unique evening of entertainment, for the entire family, about men, women and a little thing called temptation. This witty, fast-paced musical is fun for everyone!

Returning to The Barnstormers Theatre this summer is the very talented and hilarious Justin Wilcox (The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Summer 2005), and a newcomer to The Barnstormer’s stage, Stacie Bono (who comes to us directly from being Oxana Baule’s singing double in Cold As Ice). Joining them is Chris Alan Hall (Slow Dance With A Hot Pick-up). They lead a cast of new faces and Barnstormer favorites through this utterly charming musical!

In the first act, we discover Eden as Adam (Wilcox) and Eve (Bono), romp through the un-chartered land, naming everything that they come into contact with. Mark Twain’s charming take on this familiar story will keep you laughing and singing along. Once the all-knowing snake (Hall) persuades Eve to take a bite of an apple to gain intelligence – well you know the rest (sort of)!

Act two journey’s back to “a far away kingdom”, where King Arik (Patrick Tierney) has invented a legal system that guarantee’s every prisoner a fair trial. Like The Price Is Right, there are two doors. Behind one door is a beautiful woman who will become your bride. Behind the other is a ferocious, ravenous tiger. Sanjar (Wilcox) is discovered to be Princess Barbara’s (Bono) forbidden love and is forced to choose. Knowing his love (Bono), like Bob Barker, holds the secret of the doors – he asks her “which door should I choos e?” The answer? Well - which door would YOU chose?

The final act is a hystierical, modern day telling of Cinderella as told by the brilliant cartoonist, Jules Fieffer. Ella (Bono), a chimney sweep, dreams of being a beautiful, glamorous movie star. Visited by her friendly neighborhood godmother (Hall), Ella gets her wish. But is it everything she thought it would be? She longs for love and fulfillment which she finds in Flip (Wilcox) a big music recording star, with hair that is even bigger! Will they find true love?

The Apple Tree set is designed by Randall Parsons, costumed by Mark Nagle, and lighting by Karen Perlow.
