Here is another chance for the entire family to "get out!" and go to camp together! Have fun outdoors while learning cool stuff about nature. Families will engage in seasonal activities such as tracking animals in the snow, making maple syrup, building shelters for survival, and probing the various habitats at the farm, all guided by an Audubon naturalist. Plants without leaves may at first all look the same, but identifying trees and shrubs using branches, bark and buds can be fun and relatively easy to learn. This is a useful skill for anyone interested in tapping sugar maples, pruning fruit trees and shrubs or just knowing more about plants in their yard or neighborhood. Participants will receive skills, knowledge and resource material that they can immediately use at home. A visit to Elder Henry Blinn’s arboretum will provide an understanding of how the Shakers valued and used plants for various building materials, medicines and food. Refreshments (tea, coffee, cookies) will be served upon return from the walk. Please wear sturdy shoes or boots and dress appropriately for the weather.

The Lakes Region Symphony Orchestra invites you to our next concert featuring oboist Kenda Corcoran, who will perform the “Concerto in C Minor” by Benedetto Marcello. We also highlight trumpeter Christopher Hoefs, a senior at Inter-Lakes High School. Under the direction of Conductor Benjamin Greene, the concert will include a number of familiar favorites, such as a montage from Leonard Bernstein’s “West Side Story,” Franz Suppe’s “Light Cavalry Overture,” Johann Strauss’ “Tales from the Vienna Woods,” and Gabriel Faure’s “Pavanne.” The concert will close with a centennial tribute to America’s great Pops composer Leroy Anderson, with selections including “Fiddle Faddle,” “The Typewriter,” “Syncopated Clock”, and yes, “Sleigh Ride”. Tickets for these individual concerts are priced at $12 for adults and $6 for students 17 and under.

Spend the day celebrating the end of the sugar season at Prescott Farm Audubon Center, when we will focus on making maple products. Participate in the following activities throughout the day: Tour the sugar house and sugar bush; create maple treats such as leather aprons and maple candies; Make your own spile (spout) at the Heritage Craft Station; Enter the raffle for a jug of fresh syrup! All ages are welcome. An adult must accompany children under 7. Cost: $8 M/$10 NM per person; $24 M/$30 NM per family.

The Lincoln-Woodstock Rotary proudly hosts the Sgt. Katherine E. Brunelle Memorial Concert. Brunelle, a brilliant humanitarian, dedicated officer of the Woodstock Police Department, and loyal friend passed away tragically in May 2007. A 40-piece professional orchestra, conducted by PSU Senior / Woodstock Police Officer Noah Glynn, will lead in the celebration of her life, performing musical works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Holst and Finzi. All proceeds from the event benefit the Linwood Educational Trust - Sgt. Katherine E. Brunelle Scholarship. A silent auction and reception with cash-bar, appetizers and music will follow the concert.
